Wastewater Department
The City of Shepherdsville provides wastewater treatment for residential, commercial and industrial customers located within the City’s 30 square mile service area. The service area includes the City of Shepherdsville and adjacent unincorporated portions of Bullitt County. The city maintains an extensive wastewater collection system consisting of over 90 miles of gravity and pressure sewer lines as well as 33 wastewater pumping stations.
All collected wastewater is conveyed to the City’s wastewater treatment plant which is located on the banks of the Salt River 1.2 miles due West of Interstate 65. The plant was originally constructed in 1964 and recently expanded in 2008. The current plant has the capacity to treat over 5.3 million gallons per day with a peak capacity of 12 million gallons per day. A future plant expansion, planned for 2024 will increase the peak capacity of the plant from 12 to 20 million gallons per day.
